Jim Rea is a retired Methodist minister brought up in the Shankhill and Ballysilan areas of north Belfast. He was made President of the Methodist Church in Ireland from 2003-2004. In 2008 he faced severe illness with myasthenia gravis. In 1985 he founded the East Befast Mission, forerly Newtownards Road Methodist Church. Believing in the value of every person, Jim has a deep pastoral concern for those suffering from addictions and the victims of Northern Ireland's troubles. For over twenty years of his minsitry in east Belfast, he witnessed the awful cost of the conflict and reached out across the community in a peacemaking role. Over his long life, Jim has had the privilege of friendship with people form all walks of life and believes in the importance of preaching and communicating in ways that are accessable to the hearer and that the message about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, when understood and believed, is life-transforming.
