John Wycliffe (c. 1320-1384) completed his translation of the Bible directly from the Vulgate into vernacular English in the year 1382, now known as Wycliffe's Bible. His followers were called Lollards. The Lollard movement was a precursor to the Reformation. For this reason John Wycliffe is sometimes called "The Morning Star of the Reformation".
Martin Luther (1483-1546) was an important figure of the Reformation. After his conversion, he strongly taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ. His translation of the Bible into the vernacular (instead of Latin) made it more accessible and influenced the translation into English of the King James Bible.
